The Feria de Abril: what they don't tell you

Seville's Feria de Abril is technically the world's largest private party. The Real de la Feria has 1,000+ casetas — most private access only, belonging to Seville families, peñas and hermandades. Without invitation, access is limited to the few public casetas, a very different experience from the real Feria.

How to access the best casetas

Three types: private family casetas (invitation only), peña/hermandad casetas (members or guests), and municipal/public casetas (free access, less representative). Access to the best casetas — where the atmosphere, food, fino sherry and spontaneous flamenco are at another level — requires contacts in Seville.

The complete experience

The Feria lasts one week (late April/early May). Daily cycle: afternoon from noon — horse parade, casetas, fino, manzanilla, rebujito; night from 10pm — casetas at full activity, sevillanas, spontaneous flamenco; early hours — in the best years, Feria continues until dawn.
